MUSLIM WOMEN DEFEND THEIR CHOICE TO COVER UP

MUSLIM WOMEN DEFEND THEIR CHOICE TO COVER UP

NaqabMuslim women have hit back at claims by a State Government minister that members of their faith are forced to wear full-face veils such as the burqa and niqab. Minister for Women's Interests Robyn McSweeney last week urged women to refuse to wear the garments because they were a symbol of oppression and alien to Australian culture. The women who choose to cover up because of their religiousbeliefs said that both ministers, like many non-Muslims, assumed they were being forced to do so by men, when the choice was theirs.
